Session 0- Session
Introduction
Life works in a funny way. You're born, you live, you die. Rinse and repeat. A simple formula set without any interruption. Do you believe in fate? The idea that your path is set before you could step foot on it. That the people you befriend, love, and hate are all written for you before you could make that decision? The idea that perhaps, you are simply numbers in a formula that all ends the same. Only you are able to determine that. To figure out your own way to live and reach your most desired results. Would you do anything it takes?
The world is dark and only gets darker still. One moment, you were all alone, you were sure of it. The next, you were swept away and now in an empty lone plane along with 5 other figures that are hard to make out. The concept of sunlight and warmth is lost to you as you only look up to the only thing that luminates your surroundings.. is the moon. The everlasting crescent moon peers down on you with its bright yellow eyes, grinning at you. Blinding visions pass by you like a gust of wind: the light of a locomotive whizzing past you, torchlight appearing and being held to the skies, the shadows of horned creatures and grotesque abominations looming over you, flowers being torn apart and melting at the touch of the flame, and that face again. The wide eyes and grin of the moon. You watch as what appears to be its pupils slowly rolls back while it's large mouth slowly opens and unhinges its jaws and you all hear a soft voice. "Hello? Is that you? My saviors?"
Does anyone respond?
You watch as the moon convulses into itself, shrinking and shaking with its light rapidly fading till the form is nothing more than a hunched figure that glows a light yellow-green hue. As it slowly stands and your vision is able to clear, it turns to reveal a young woman looking at you with soft yellow eyes. The woman has an oddly green skin tone. She has short hair made of thick leaves that curl around her face and dark brown horns stick out of her head. The dress she wears is made of the same foliage of your hair. She looks at each one of you slowly and gives a smile
"I am sure now, it must be you. Please help me."
(Good time for the party to introduce each other and talk to her and each other)
Who are you? She thinks on this for a moment before shaking her head "I'm afraid you cannot be told that yet. In time you will come to learn my name. When you do, please do not forget. Instead, let yourselves become familiar with each other. Yes? (roll a dice and ask that member to kindly introduce themselves)"
Where are we?/Where am I? She gives you a smile and holds her arms out and looks around "You are no where. You are no one, and I retrieved you to make you something. Now, you are here. With me. For a short time, I'm afraid. I'll have to return you soon."
What do you want?/What can we do to help?/How do I return? Her posture eases a little bit and you hear a sadness in her voice "I need your help. I need your saving. You must follow the path and come to me. You are all the only ones I can trust to do this"
Why me? She gives another smile "Because you are all broken as I am. That much, I am aware of. "
If someone says they don't trust her or want to figure out a motive from her, they can roll insight.
Success (18+) You can tell she is telling the truth in that she needs your help and she's not completely foreign to you, but while her expressions are obvious smiles and her voice sounds helpless, her eyes don't match. Her eyes are cold, and you can tell there's one thing she's not telling you
(In response to whatever the party reacts: She sighs deeply, closes her eyes, and drops her shoulders before her hair and dress begin to decay and her skin rapidly rots before you. Her neck snaps quickly to the side and her eyes open once more. Her eyes that were once soft are now piercing and mad as a grin unnaturally stretches across her face "Your intuition is good. Maintain that quality and it will take you far in these dark lands, hehe. Your next test begins." And with two claps of her hands, the room is dark once again. You feel a grip around your body that makes it difficult to breathe, and just when you feel like your grasp on consciousness is being lost, you're freed once more.)
Her voice does not change during any of this
Fail: From what you're able to tell, she's telling the truth in that she needs your help and she's not completely foreign to you.
"I'm sorry, I know that we had just met, but there isn't much time and I understand the bond between us remains thin. Please, allow me to test your strength. These lands are dangerous without the proper skills. Work together, protect each other. In doing so, you can succeed in saving me!" And she claps her hand twice and the scene around you starts to change.
Walls begin to sprout from the ground and build ragged edges that push the 6 of you together to the center. You watch 6 faces begin to grow out of the walls, taking different shapes and forms to create statues, all with their hands reaching out to you.
Part Two:
"You are all used to working alone. That won't last you very long here. If there is anyone to trust in this world, it is yourself, and your team. Find what will forgive my fallen."
Then her voice fades. What do you want to do?
The Statues
The Crow
Pinned against the wall is what looks like the shell of a scarecrow. Among all the other figures that surround you this isn't a statue at all compared to the others. With dark yellow stone eyes, what would be his hands are held out before him in a limp manner. His head is droopy, there are pieces of straw that stick out from underneath his neck and sleeves; and he has no legs as he is carved into the wall.
Below reads: "The watchful eye knows all"
The Widow
The statue appears as a woman in a long dress that's knelt down with a veil that covers her face. She looks down and her hands are cupped in the air as if she were in prayer.
Below reads: "What is broken cannot be mended"
The Knight
The statue appears as a man knelt down on one knee covered in a shining armor that has symbols of the sun all over him. He hangs his head with his hands cupped together as if ashamed to ask for your help.
Below reads: "Loyalty burns brightly with the sun"
The Satyr
Within a small den of the wall there are roots and vines that have twisted around the body of this statue that appears to be a woman with long wavy hair and long antlers. Her head hangs back as, unlike the other statues, her hands lay close to her chest and lay gently towards a massive hole that looks like it was pried open by the roots that hold her hostage.
Below reads: "The balance between life and death must be maintained"
The Pirate
This is the only statue that adorns any color. This golden statue of a crocodile's head hangs out from the wall with its jaw hanging and a long tongue lulls out and is laid on the ground.
Below reads: "A little magic can fulfill any desire"
The Reaper
The largest statue that goes up to the roof in the room. A large orc man draped in a cloak with a hood pulled up, holding a large staff that holds a lantern on top of it. Only one of his large hands are reached out towards you.
Below reads: "Only memories can escape death"
Fight
After placing your last relic into the hands of the statue, It starts to shake and crumble. All the statues you just returned relics too are crumbling and falling apart and after a burst of energy emerges six creatures given new life and turn to your direction.
"Good. Now defend yourselves."
Will need to make baby stat blocks for what they're going to fight
After the fight:
After you take down the last enemy, a shadow pours out of it and envelopes you all as you are soon returned back into the strange open area you were in before. The young woman turns to you and smiles, with her hands close to her chest she says "You all did very well. You work well together. Find each other, find your fate, then find me"
And with a wave of her hand it's as if you are all put into a deep sleep.
When you awake again, you're alone once more in locations unfamiliar to you. Whether they're deep in the woods, a graveyard just outside of a town, or a big empty field, it's as if everything you had just experienced was nothing more than a dream. The only thing that could give you any sort of familiarity is the moon that smiles above you.
Roll to pick a character to target as the one the train goes to first
In the distance, you begin to hear something rapidly approaching. The sound of a train's horn calls you and you start to hear what sounds like... a fiddle. As you watch a ghostly, old, black locomotive approach you. Its smokestack belches plumes of ghastly blue-green smoke that wail with the faces and voices of the damned. When you take a closer look you see... a frog. Dressed in a tattered old jacket with a wide-brimmed hat- There is a frog sitting atop the train playing the fiddle and smiling at you.
The locomotive rumbles, squeals, and creaks as it slows to a halt, and a passenger car looms directly before you. The frogman hops off before your lonesome and holds a hand out toward the train "All aboard!!" he calls
And that's the end of the session :)
Everyone level up to level 2
